Adding to our flock :: Assistant Position Open

Business

wedding assistant

There’s nothing greater than watching our assistants take the next leap forward in their lives. After building great friendships with these girls, it’s always so exciting to see where life takes them. Of course, its a little heart breaking to know our time with them has to end, but we love seeing their success in the wedding planning industry even more! We’re so lucky to have our long time assistant, Lyndee, sign on again with us this year. As she approaches graduation though, she’ll have to limit the number of weddings she’ll be available for this year. That means we are in need of a second wedding day assistant to fill in the gaps and join our team!

We’re hiring a part time, wedding day assistant. This is not a photographer’s position, and we are not looking for a third shooter. Rather, we are looking for the perfect coordinator to join our team as we navigate wedding days for our couples. Our assistants serve as a liaison between photographers and other wedding vendors, the wedding party, and the couple. Our assistants become our 3rd set of hands and eyes, taking care of important but small tasks that have major impacts on photography.  We asked our amazing assistant Lyndee to describe the job, and we have some points to share with you here to help paint the picture of what life is like as one of our assistants…

The best candidates for the job are:

Flexible and professional, during sometimes hectic and stressful portions of a wedding day, making sure to remember the importance of the day for the couple.

Quick and alert, constantly aware of what’s happening around them, anticipating the next step in the photography timeline.

Calm and happy, maintaining a sense of ease for the couple even when things are not going to plan (count on this happening frequently)

Socially and emotionally in tune, lightening the mood with the nervous Groom in a fun yet professional manner or knowing when to hand the Bride a tissue, step back and let the tears flow.

Multi tasked with an eye for detail, noticing any small things the photographers might miss as they look for the bigger picture. Hair out of place, veil falling in a strange way, a missing button, a thread here, a stain there… you’ll be looking for it all.

Duties:

Keeper of the time – The entire day’s timeline is written down and held by you. You’ll keep track of how long portions of the day are taking, where adjustments need to be made and how to best adapt the timeline as necessary. Most of your duties revolve around the need to keep distractions low and keep the timeline moving as planned for the sake of the photography, and ultimately the couple’s wedding experience.

Bridal details security guard – While Betty photographs the Bride and Bridesmaids getting ready, you’ll step away with Maggie and be in charge of handling the bridal details. The dress, shoes, wedding rings, family heirlooms and any other small details that are to be photographed you’ll watch over and get back to the Bride.

Pseudo Maid of Honor – Time flies in the bridal suite, and you’ll be the one to think of all the little things. Passing out straws to keep lipstick in place, knowing how to pop a bottle of champagne, and helping the girls get into their dresses quickly are just some of the things you can expect to do.

One of the guys – Help the Groom and Groomsmen with ties, cufflinks, suspenders, and boutonnieres all while keeping it cool and casual, lightening the room and helping keep any nervousness low.

Wedding party tracker – When it’s time for bridal party photos, it’s important to have everyone in the bridal party on hand and ready for photos. Offering to run to the bar and bring refreshments back to the group, rather than losing the Groomsmen for 20 minutes, is a great example of how to accomplish this task.

Family photo gatherer – You’ll keep the pre determined list of requested family photos on hand during this portion of the day. As one group is being photographed, you’ll be gathering the next group in the lineup. This keeps the time to a minimum and gets everyone to cocktail hour faster. They’ll love you for this!

Equipment dealer – Be ready to run new memory cards, batteries, flashes or lenses to either photographer when necessary. Keep track of photographers cases and bags, and keep an eye on the equipment when photographers step away to photograph someone/something.

Photographer life support – Remind photographers to stay hydrated, eat a granola bar, and pee at least once during the 10 hour day. Then you do the same!
