Our Favorite Reception Songs

Personal

It’s no secret that we love to dance. And there’s nothing better than wedding reception dancing. It’s a different level of awesome, carefree dance moves that you can only experience while at a wedding reception. Luckily for us, we get to witness this spectacle on the regular. Wedding season is approaching, and that’s got us excited for all the fun nights ahead, burning up the dance floor with cameras in hand. Yes that’s right… we shake our groove thing from time to time when no one’s watching. Dance floors get crowded, and sometimes the best way to get from one side of the dance floor to the other is to mambo through the crowd  😉

Here’s a list of some songs we’re looking forward to hearing and dancing to this wedding season…

1. “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson – Current favorite! We know all the words and dance moves.

2. “Twist and Shout” by The Beatles – Always one of the most fun songs to dance to. Classic, fun and full of energy.

3. “Love Shack” by The B 52’s – Some very good, very bad dancing happens when this song comes on. Love it.

4. “Do You Love Me” by The Contours – All time favorite old school dancing song. If you need inspiration just youtube the scene from Dirty Dancing and you’ll understand what we’re talking about. “Work! Work!”

5. “Footloose” by Kenny Loggins – We always want to throw glitter into the air when this one comes on. Sure to create a dance off circle in no time 😉

6. “Like A Prayer” by Madonna – We can lip-synch this one like it’s our job. Overly emotional facial expressions included.

7. “Hang On Sloopy” by The MaCoys – Not a very popular one at all. We’ve only heard it at a handful of receptions, but boy when this gem comes on we go nuts. It’s just so good!

8. “Play That Funky Music” by Wild Cherry – There’s always one guy at a reception who seems like a “non-dancer”. He sits at his table all night long, barely tapping his foot to the music. Then this song comes on and bam… he’s shaking it on the dance floor.

9. “Let Me Clear My Throat” by DJ Kool – Because… yes. Hit me with the horns Tony!

10. “Shout” by The Isley Brothers or Otis Day – Play this song at your reception. If you’re the Bride and Groom, make sure you dance with each other. Let the crowd circle around you, jump up and down, and enjoy every second of it. This is a must!

11. “Baby Got Back” by Sir Mix-a-Lot – Because everyone knows the words. Just let it happen.

12. “You Are The Best Thing” By Ray LaMontagne – A great love song that doesn’t have to slow things down too much. This one ends up as a First Dance song pretty frequently and we just love it!

13. Line dances to include but not limited to: “Cupid Shuffle”, “Cha Cha Slide” and of course “The Wobble” – If you need help with the dance moves, we’ve got you covered.

14. “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey – Play this one at the end of your reception and just see what happens. There’s usually lots of singing involved. A sure bet for a great end to your big day.

15. “Ho Hey” by The Lumineers – Feel all the feelings with this one. Also produces lots of group singing. Another good choice for the end of the night.

We could go on and on and on. But we’ll stop here. What are some of YOUR favorites?
