Hopefully you’ve heard of an “unplugged wedding” before. It’s something we strongly suggest to all of our couples. In short, an unplugged wedding is one where the couple asks guests to focus on the ceremony, not on their devices (phone, camera, or iPad). The goal of kindly asking guests to put their devices down, is to put the attention back towards what’s important. Guests hearts and minds are truly present while a couple says their vows at an unplugged wedding. Equally as important from our point of view, an unplugged wedding eliminates major hurdles in our work. Without having to shoot around 6 camera phones in the aisle, we can actually get a clean shot of the Bride and Groom’s first kiss. But that’s not what today’s post is about. Today’s post is about us.

We’re practicing what we preach. Tomorrow we’re packing up the entire family and heading to the beach. We’re unplugging. Our plan is to fully immerse ourselves with the task of doing nothing. We will wake up, slowly eat breakfast together, then head to the beach where we’ll sit, talk, play and listen. We’ll be fully present. We won’t have our phones next to us, we won’t be thinking about the next item on our to do list. When we have a conversation with the people we love it will be the only thing our minds are focused on. Work will not be the center of our days, our family will.
In this line of work we commit ourselves to being readily available for our couples. We do more than the average photographer to make our couples experience incredible. We burn the midnight oil every week to turn photos around as fast as possible, and we do it because we love it. But, to be able to continue to do this all year long we need some time to recharge. To unplug. And that is what next week will be for us.
You won’t see any blog posts from us next week. None! How strange!!! It’s hard for us to make the decision to completely unplug on our family vacation but it’s only fair. Fair to ourselves, and fair to our family. Yes, we will have access to email all week and so if time sensitive, very important emails are sent our way we will be in touch. But, we ask that if you are attempting to schedule a session, work through a timeline, or just have questions that you give us more time than usual to respond. We will not have access to our voicemail during this week, so if you need us for something important please send an email.
We’ll be “out of the office” starting today, and we’ll return to work Monday, August 18th. Until then the blog will be quiet and we’ll be unplugging to recharge. Thank you!
