Ask Anything :: Do you travel?

Ask Anything

Today we’re answering another somewhat common question about how far outside of our “home base city” we’ll travel to photograph a wedding. We like to identify ourselves as a Washington, DC based photography team, because it’s simple and most everyone knows that “DC” really means MD/DC and Northern VA. But DC is a very transient city. People re-locate to DC from across the country after college or with job transfers. When two people meet in DC, fall in love and decide to get married, many times they choose to have their wedding in one of their home towns, which isn’t always close to they’re current city. For this reason, we run into couples rather frequently who are interested in working with us, but ask the question “will you travel?”

Our answer is yes! We always recommend that couples work with a photographer who lives and works out of the same city or general area that the couple lives in. The time you spend with your photographer far exceeds the wedding day. There’s the initial meeting, the engagement session, the timeline planning, and other points along the way you will need to work with your photographer. Trying to build this relationship long distance is nearly impossible. Many times, couples will work with us here in the DC area leading up to their big day, and then everyone travels to the wedding destination for the wedding itself. Don’t forget, after the wedding when the couple is back in DC, there is still an album to design. So the relationship still isn’t over and having your photographer close by is essential.

In short, yes we do travel for weddings. Sometimes we travel a couple of hours outside of DC/MD/Northern VA and sometimes we fly across the country. We’re up for anything! Our fees do not change for travel weddings, because our work remains the same. We treat each wedding with the same care and so the investment shouldn’t be different from any other wedding. Travel fees are required to be covered by the couple, but that’s all!

We hope this post helps answer the question… “Do you travel?”

Always have to take an iphone pic of the wing of the plane mid-flight  😉
