Introducing : The Anniversary Session

Business

Over the past several months we’ve been asked to photograph anniversary sessions more and more. We’ve always wanted to do the sessions, but always decided we were too busy, and would suggest other fantastic lifestyle and family photographers in the area instead. “There just isn’t enough time” we’d tell ourselves.

Then it dawned on us…

We’ve been contradicting our own philosophy, and completely ignoring why we fell in love with photography in the first place.  The stories! Yesssss, the love stories.

When people ask us to describe what we do for a living, we always tell them we “document love stories”. And we do! However, our mistake has been to stop after the wedding was over. Is your love story over when the cake is cut, and the guests have all gone home? No! We realized the day we capture is just the beginning. A wedding is chapter one. Your love story doesn’t end when your wedding does, and you shouldn’t ignore the importance of continuing to document that love story as the years go by. Neither should we. And that is why we have decided to start offering anniversary sessions. Because a love story doesn’t end when the wedding does.

Yes. This feels right to us. Anniversary sessions are a good thing, and we will make time for them, because they are so very important.  More important than the wedding we dare to say. Because the beautiful party you throw on your wedding day is filled with moments and memories that deserve to be captured in photos for generations to come, but the life you live every day after that will create who you are as a couple. It will change you. Please understand that it WILL change you. You will grow, you will cease to be the people you were 1, 5, 10, 50 years ago when you said your vows. But the love, the love will remain. And the story of how you got to your 1st, 5th, 10th or 50th chapter should be photographed as well. So allow us to introduce our new, Anniversary Sessions.

When we decided to start offering Anniversary Sessions, and start saying “yes” to all the inquiries we’ve been receiving we knew we wanted to give this type of session a try first. So we called on our dear friends, Florence and Andy who happen to be the folks behind Smile and Click Photo Booths. They just celebrated their lucky #7 anniversary last week and we asked them to come out and let us photograph them. It was a blast! They were probably more nervous than an engaged couple at an engagement session, and it was the sweetest thing we’ve ever seen. They talked about their wedding, their disaster of a wedding cake, the years, being in the delivery rooms for their babies, how those babies have grown and where they are now. It was one of the most rewarding photo sessions we’ve ever done. Florence and Andy have not had their photos taken since their wedding day 7 years ago. 7 years!? That’s crazy! But it’s what happens, it’s normal to forget. Life takes over and photos are the last thing on your endless to do list. We’re here to help make it easier to have those memories photographed. Here are some of our favorites from their session…

Ok, a little back story for you: Florence had some props from her photo booth with her. On one of her chalkboards she wrote “7 years” since this was their 7th anniversary. Andy grabbed a second chalkboard and quietly wrote something on it, none of us knew what he wrote. He said no one was allow to see it until we took the picture. So when he held it up, naturally we both started to cry behind our cameras. Florence thought we were nuts but then she saw what he had written for her and about lost it too 😉 Such a sweet moment! This is exactly why we are so excited to start offering sessions like this!

Now that everyone stopped crying, we could continue 😉

They finished by remembering their first dance on their wedding day… and we started to cry again.

Sometime in the upcoming weeks we’ll make an announce about our very first Anniversary Session Marathon. We anticipate having the first of it’s kind take place sometime this summer. So keep an eye on the blog and get ready!
