Monday Minutes :: First Installment

Behind the scenes

Good morning! It’s the first Monday of the new year and we’re trying something new today. Most of the time, we have busy weekends and the first thing we want to do Monday morning is share with our readers all the things that went on. So we decided we needed a dedicated blog post each week to get everyone caught up with what we did over the weekend, giving a glimpse of what’s in store for the blog that week. “Monday Minutes” is our weekend update blog series and we hope it turns out to be a success! We plan on sharing our Monday Minutes with you each Monday morning as often as we have things to share!

Today’s first installment is a doozy!  Thursday is when our weekend really started, and we went non-stop until late last night. Here’s a rundown…

After meeting a wonderful new Bride Thursday morning, we ran across the street to The Loft Salon for some hair and makeup magic to be worked. Then we forced ourselves to have our own portraits taken, and we even managed to get one “good one” of ourselves together. We’ll have more to share with you tomorrow!

Once we had the portraits taken care of we hit the road and headed down to Today’s Bride and Formal Wear to choose a dress for a styled shoot happening later in the weekend. We had such an easy time finding the perfect dress too… it fit our model like a glove and we were all sold on the 3rd dress she tried on. Bingo! Then we headed home as the snow started falling, to prep for Friday’s wedding. We took one look at the weather forecast and decided to head into DC for the night, in preparation for the next morning’s wedding. Rather than deal with the icy DC traffic at 6am Friday morning, we found a room at the Beacon Hotel in Dupont, grabbed a late dinner, and crashed for the night.

Our room had a nice view of the city…

Friday morning arrived with snow on the ground, and we photographed our first wedding of 2014. And it was the most beautiful, relaxed, enjoyable wedding we’ve ever photographed. Beth and Jake were SO easy going… we had to remind ourselves this was actually a wedding day! It was also freezing. Freezing! Pretty sure it was about 6 degrees during formal photos, but they were champs and stood in the frigid air for 10 minutes allowing us to get some lovely snowy portraits. Check the blog later this week for this wedding!

Friday evening was spent prepping for the next day’s styled shoot at Woodlawn Farm. We managed to get to bed at a reasonable hour and were up again Saturday morning ready to go. The styled shoot was a huge undertaking for everyone involved, but it turned out to be a huge success! We’ll have a lot more to share with you this week, but for now here’s just one of our favorites from the day…

Yesterday we slept in a little bit  😉  and didn’t turn on our computers until 9am! Lots of business stuff needed to be taken care of that was put on hold while we were shooting most of the weekend, then we were on our way back to St. Mary’s City for an engagement session before the rain set in. Luckily… we finished just as the first drops were falling. Woosh! This engagement will be up this week as well!
