Yesterday, creatives across the country were challenged to ask themselves what they would do with their free time, if the work was ever done. What do you love? What makes you happy and brings you joy? The goal was to help creative business owners with deadlines, nonstop emails, and work weeks that never end, overlapping into the next, step back and decide if they needed a break. We asked ourselves if our work/life balance was actually balanced. It wasn’t. Is it ever? Not really. Maybe over the course of an entire year, we might get to an even balance between family and work time. But we go in and out of seasons where we simply cannot “take a day”. We simply cannot let the emails go until tomorrow. We absolutely must edit until 2am, again.
Yesterday, we asked ourselves if our work/life balance was balanced. It was not. Yesterday was a day we decided it was acceptable to put our phones down, step away from the computer, and stop stressing over upcoming bridal show season. Instead, we did a little Christmas shopping, wrapped some presents, listened to music and danced with the boys in our sweats. We snuggled the baby longer before putting him down for his naps, because there wasn’t anything waiting for us to get to. We answered every question from Sweet Cheeks with full sentences and we never said “in a minute” or “almost done”.
Today, the pendulum will swing back the other way, and we’ll be all business. Yesterday though, we tried our best to balance things out for a little bit.
