Monday Minutes

This weekend was wonderful! We couldn’t have asked for a better one! Not only did we photograph our favorite thing to photograph, a wedding, we had the opportunity to be taken out of our comfort zone and photograph something we don’t typically do. Then we had the type of exciting, relaxing, fun, family-time we’ve been looking forward to. This is such an amazing time of year!

We started the weekend off doing something we never do. At the urging of one of our good friends we decided to break away from weddings for one evening, to photograph a gorgeous girl for her senior photos. Not going to lie, we were nervous! There are so many amazing senior photographers in this area, and the last time we photographed a senior session was several years ago. When your accountant (and dear friend) ask for a favor though, you do it, so we gave it a try and thanks to Kayla being such an awesome model… the session was a blast! Don’t worry, we doubt we’ll be doing another senior session anytime soon. Sweet Cheeks may be our next! Weddings are where our hearts are, but it was a great break from the norm to work with Kayla for her senior photos! We were surprised at how much we liked this type of session!

Mary and Jason had the most wonderful early Fall wedding at Sotterley Plantation on Saturday with gorgeous navy and rust orange hues against the still green fields of the property. It was just beautiful! Everything from their ceremony space looking out to the water, to the reception decor was just so lovely. Mary and Jason are two of the sweetest people you’ll meet, and we had the best time watching their day unfold. We can’t wait to get to work on these and share more with you later in the week! Here’s a quick look at the gorgeous couple in the historic gardens.

Sunday we were up early (even if our feet and backs wished for a morning in bed). It was Fair weekend in Charles County, and the tradition running 3 generations now continued with this year’s trip to the fair. Since we are typically photographing a wedding on Saturday during Fair weekend, we make a point to get there as soon as the gates open on Sunday to make sure we have time to fit it all in. This year was no different, and with Sweet Cheeks being so tell now, he was all about the rides! He got his wrist band, and off we went holding our breath as he climbed into rides that seemed too big for him. He did great of course, and we eventually stopped clutching at our chests when he “took off” on each ride. And yes, we ate a lot of food.

Sunday evening there was plenty of work we could have done. Emails that came in over the weekend could have been answered, editing could have begun from the wedding the day before, albums could have been designed… but we took the advice of some photographers we admire and took the entire day to be away from work. It was a challenge not to sit down at the computer, but the time relaxing, looking up at the trees and spotting a few red and orange leaves, was worth the effort. We hope you all had a great weekend! Keep up with the blog this week for lots of fun stuff!
