With the official first day of summer behind us, we’re realizing how quickly the hot days are passing us by. This time of year is so fleeting, but oh so glorious. Watching Chubby Cheeks grow all too quickly isn’t helping either. Our awareness of how fast time goes by is heightened these days. Of course, we’re in the middle of wedding season and we are eager every week for Saturday to roll around, excited to to get to work at the next wedding we’re photographing. Watching our couples enjoy their wedding days is such a joy for us. But… we must also remember to slow down when we can, and breathe in summer, slowly and intentionally. We don’t have very big plans for this summer, even our family vacation is taking on a new shape. We are so excited for our week at the beach as a family, but this year we plan on scheduling time to do nothing, and truly go with the flow. The plan is to stay on the beach until the sun goes down. Throw on a baseball cap and flip flops, no the makeup. Eat dinner on the deck every night, and skip the crowds and reservations. Fly kites. Play in the cool sand at dusk. Slow. Down.
In between work days, blogging days, editing days, office days, engagement sessions, consultations and weddings we hope to get through some of the things on this list, when we remember to slow down and enjoy the summer…
Pick and eat a bushel of crabs
Have a few Sunday dinners at Maw Maw’s with the whole family
Teach Sweet Cheeks how to swim
Go to at least a couple Friday Night Concerts in La Plata
Sit on the front steps and eat popsicles
Watch the fireworks
Have a picnic
Stay up late, sleep in even later
Grill
Play corn hole and eat an entire watermelon
Run through the sprinkler (or let Sweet Cheeks attack us with it)
Sip cold beer on the deck, at night, under cafe lights
Go to a baseball game, or two
Watch a little too much TV
Watch the sunrise over the ocean, and wake Sweet Cheeks up to see it
What are your summer plans? Whatever they are, and even if you don’t get through any of them, we hope you’ll at least take time to slow down and watch a sunset every once in a while.
