This is our favorite question to be asked! In our opinion this is the most important question to ask any wedding photographer who you are interviewing. In fact, we believe viewing several, full wedding galleries is so important for couples, we don’t even make them ask anymore! Anytime a couple inquiries about a wedding date or is interested in learning more about us, we immediately respond with all of our information as well as links to several full wedding and engagement galleries.
Here’s why.
Our website gallery of images showcases the very best of the best photographs we’ve ever taken… the cream of the crop. Then of course you have our blog, where you can find a huge amount of photos from all of our weddings and sessions. Couples can really get to know a photographer’s work through their blog, and hopefully couples start to notice consistency and style. After all, sometimes we end up posting close to 200 photos in our full wedding blog posts! Those chosen photos tell the story of that day, highlighting moments and details that our readers would love to see. But those are not all of the photos our wedding couples receive as a final product, not even close. The average wedding from Birds of a Feather Photography producers over 500 unique final images. The blog may contain a lot of photos, but it still leaves out plenty. Things like the family formals and an abundance of reception photos don’t make it into our blog posts because 200 images is already long enough!
Sure our blog posts show you what the pretty details look like, they show you a large number of couple’s portraits, and they show you the overall feeling of each wedding day. But they don’t show you how we photograph family formals. They don’t show you the large number of reception photos we’re delivering. There’s more to see, and you want to have the opportunity to see everything your photographer offers.
So, when you’ve done your search for your top 3 or 5 wedding photographers, based on their website and blog portfolio, please remember that your work is not done. You have one more level of portfolio review to go through before you can truly have a clear understanding of a photographer’s final product… the entire collection of wedding photos. Always ask to see an entire wedding gallery. Heck, ask to see several! Look at the complete, finished product they offer to all of their couples. Look through every collection of images, take note of how they make you feel, and decide if you can see yourselves and your family in these photos. Top notch, professional photographers will be happy to share these full galleries with you without hesitation.
Family Formals are so important! Give some thought into whether or not they fit your style.
Between the two of us, we take a TON of reception photos. The blog just can’t hold them all!
