Oh summer… sweet, sweet summer. It’s not over yet! Trust us we know that! We’re holding onto every last ounce of summer that we can, but as it does every year, school is back in session and we are switching into Fall mode. What does that mean? This year it means we’re entering our fullest season ever with almost half of this year’s weddings taking place in the next two months. Though we might not love to see summer go, we do work a little better when we have a solid routine in place so we’re excited. We wanted to get ahead of the busy season and share some insight into our Fall Schedule here on the blog. With weddings happening every weekend, sometimes double headers, and with a lot of engagement sessions happening as the sun sets earlier and earlier, we may not spend as much time in the office as is typical. A basic rundown of our weekly work routine is below, with information on how to reach us, when to expect to hear from us, when not to, and such…
MONDAY = EDITING DAY
This is the day of the week we focus 90% of our time on editing the most recent weekend’s wedding. We have likely photographed a wedding 2 days prior, and this is when we’ll dig in and edit the bulk, if not all of it. When we have a double header, this day becomes a little longer and extends into Tuesday as well.
Emails are answered on Monday afternoon and evening. If you reached out to us over the weekend, Saturday or Sunday, we were likely unable to return any emails because our focus on was the wedding at hand. If you haven’t heard from us by Monday evening, touch base again to make sure we received your email!
TUESDAY = ODDS AND ENDS DAY
This is the day we finish any left over edits from Monday, and tackle the To Do List of little odds and ends. Packaging welcome gifts, going to Staples, ordering supplies, standing in line at the post office, paying bills, reviewing contracts, developing timelines, submitting images for publication, etc. Super fun stuff that takes up more time than it should… that’s what Tuesday is for! This is also the day we will blog the upcoming wedding photos! Emails are of course answered as needed in different chunks of the day that we find ourselves in front of our computers.
WEDNESDAY = ACCOUNTING AND BLOGGING
Betty will spend the day locked to her computer crunching numbers and balancing to the penny. Maggie spends the day writing and preparing blog posts for the next 3 to 5 days worth of posts. This day calls for lots of coffee. Emails are always answered, naturally.
THURSDAY = TRY NOT TO WORK DAY
This is the day where usually, no more editing is in the queue, the office needs are met, the inbox is empty (for at least 5 minutes) and we realize we haven’t done laundry in a week and the children need bathing. On Thursdays we try to fit in doctors appointments, grocery shopping, laundry, cleaning, and basic human needs. We will try to stay away from emails unless they are urgent.
FRIDAY = PREP DAY
Friday is always a day to prepare our equipment for the next day’s wedding, have a final timeline meeting, discuss logistics for locations, and just get mentally ready to tackle the upcoming wedding. This is also a day that during the Fall, becomes another half day of editing. By now in the week, we’ve usually shot an engagement session or two, and we will always try to edit those photos before the weekend hits. In all, we like to be “done” with anything we’ve photographed during the week before starting over again on Saturday. We also like the inbox to be empty before the weekend!
SATURDAY = SHOW TIME
Saturdays feel like a performance day for us. It’s time for the big game, and we’re ready! We never schedule anything else on Saturdays. No brunch with friends before we shoot a wedding. We usually wake up, go over timelines again, get dressed and get on the road to the wedding’s location. With most couples choosing to have us for 10 hours of coverage, we spend practically all day in wedding mode. We’re usually wrapping up around 10 or 11pm, then we load up our gear, and drive home (which is almost always at least an hour drive). Then, after getting home and crawling up the stairs its time for a hot shower before starting to back up all the files from the day’s wedding. Another hour or two is ahead of us before our heads hit the pillow. Rarely will we have time to stop and answer emails on a wedding day.
SUNDAY = FUN DAY FAMILY DAY
Wedding hangover is in full effect, our feet are swollen and we are tired on Sundays. But this is the only full day each week we get to spend with our family, so we take full advantage. In the Fall you’ll find us spending our Sundays at the pumpkin patch, the fair, the zoo, or in DC for some fun. No emails today, no editing today, no accounting today, just family and fun.
NOTES:
- Office hours by appointment only. With our always changing engagement session schedule and meeting schedules, we do not keep typical office hours during the week. In the Fall especially, we may spend a lot less time at the office than usual. If you are hoping to reach us, email is best! Dropping by the office isn’t the best idea, because we’re either out for sessions or errands, or we are having a consultation or meeting with one of our couples which we can’t break from.
- Emails will be checked over the weekends in between Saturday’s wedding and our day off on Sunday, but only very urgent emails will be responded to. Feel free to email us over the weekends though! We’ll get back in touch on Monday!
- Engagement sessions this Fall are incredibly limited. Dates are almost full, so if you are still waiting to schedule your session contact us right away!
- New couple meetings typically take place weeknights, after 5pm when it’s most convenient for those coming to our office. These too are limited in availability.
Now who wants a Pumpkin Spice Latte?!?!
