Happy Friday! The busy work week is coming to an end, and the weekend is in sight! As most folks prepare for some downtime, we spend our Fridays preparing for our biggest day of the week. Weddings are like a performance. As photographers, we get one chance to get everything right, and we need to do it all with grace and calm demeanor. There’s a lot that goes into preparing for a wedding day as it’s photographers, and we’re here to share a run down of what our Friday check list looks like! Here goes!
Pack Equipment: Load flashes with fresh batteries. Count and pack all camera bodies, do the same for all lenses. Gather light stands and umbrellas. Count and double check everything a second time.
Gather Paperwork: Pack couple’s file with contract, contact information, and vendor information. Print copies of the day’s timeline, family formal list, directions (because who knows when the GPS will stop functioning) and pre wedding questionnaire. Share this information with our assistant.
Charge Batteries: Charge all 10 of our camera body batteries, and do the same for our stock of rechargeable AA’s. Any non-rechargable batteries need to be restocked and packed.
Format CF Cards: Only after confirming all images on those CF cards are stored in two locations, fully edited, and backed up a third time online do we prepare those cards for the next wedding. We bring a lot of these!
Prepare and restock details box: This is the box we bring with us to weddings that has all the random “stuff” in it. Mints, hair spray, bobby pins, command hooks for the dress, extra pretty hangers in case the dress is on a plastic version, pretty ribbons for styling and lots of other little details.
Pack a survival bag for ourselves: This would be things like, water bottles, Cliff bars, mints, band aids for our heels, a brush for windy days, backup shoes, and a little extra makeup to revamp our face before reception.
We like to have ALL of this done, and be FULLY prepared by the afternoon. That leaves us Friday evening to relax a bit, spend time resting up for the big day, and of course having our traditional “Friday Night Family Dinner”. We’re off to get started on all of these things now! Have a great Friday and an awesome weekend! We’re headed to Rixey Manor tomorrow and we’re so excited!
