Ask Anything :: When to schedule your engagement session

There are a lot of great and very important questions new couples should be asking the photographers they meet with, all helping them find the right photography team for them. We get asked a lot of these questions, and we so enjoy the process of getting to know the couples who are considering us for their wedding photography. After a couple decides that they want to be a Birds couple, we hear a different set of questions about what to do next. Of course, we walk everyone through our client experience during our meetings, but today we’re answering a question that we get very frequently. In fact, this is usually the very first thing we hear after a couple secures their wedding date in our calendar.

“When do we schedule our engagement session?”

Our answer is always “as soon as possible!” Because we photograph an engagement session for each and every couple we work with, our availability for engagement sessions fills just as quickly as our availability for weddings. So we always tell couples who work with us to make scheduling their engagement session a priority immediately after they officially become one of our couples. Just like weddings, engagement sessions have popular seasons and typically the majority of couples are looking for a Spring or Fall engagement session date. Whether you are working with us or with another photography team, we strongly suggest that you get your engagement session on the calendar as soon as possible!

Now, this doesn’t mean you need to actually shoot the session right away. For the couples who just booked with us this weekend for example, many won’t do their session until this summer or fall, but to have first dibs at the prime dates in our calendar, they will want to schedule as soon as possible.

Speaking of this past weekend… after two days filled with coffee, hot tea and delicious mini scones we are beyond excited to welcome a lot of new couples to our 2017 wedding lineup! We had the pleasure of sitting down with 7 new Brides and Grooms over the weekend and today we welcomed our 7th new 2017 couple to the family! We cannot believe how lucky we are to get to do this job for a 5th year now, and goodness we can’t tell you how much it means to be given the honor of documenting your wedding. Welcome new couples! We’re so happy to have you!
