2016 is less than a week in, and 2015 is still fresh in our minds. We’re the type of people who love to remember, to look back and reminisce about the amazing times we’ve had. We’re also very Scottish and tend to get sappy, so “Auld Lang Syne” is still humming in our minds as we remember some of the best times of 2015. We’re sharing our top ten 2015 memories here today.
ONE: Chubby Cheeks!
He was due New Years Eve of 2015, but Maggie tends to have her babies really late, so no one was expecting a baby “on time”. He arrived January 9th and it was one of the greatest days of the year, if not the best!
TWO: DC Weddings
We truly love every wedding we photograph, but this year we found ourselves in DC more than ever before and it was such a treat to work with couples who made their photos a priority. Having the opportunity to photograph inside the monuments so frequently was a highlight of 2015 for us!
THREE: Epic Styled Shoot
We limited the number of styled shoots we did in 2015. We’re becoming firm believers in quality over quantity and this is especially true with projects outside of weddings. Being spread too thin, running around like crazy, never having enough time to fully immerse yourself in the project at hand does not create for us a result to be proud of. So… we held back with how many shoots we took on, but dove in head first to those we did. The biggest shoot of the year was our Farm to Table Rehearsal Dinner, and we worked with the incredible Alicia Jayne Florals and Hitched By Heather to create it. This was a huge highlight of 2015 for us!
FOUR: Making new friends
The world of creative entrepreneurs is growing, especially in the wedding industry and that means two things. The industry is growing (and getting really good for couples who want a stellar experience) and we have more friends in our line of work! Thanks to the Rising Tide Society movement that blew up this year, we’ve been able to connect with local folks like us who work in creative fields. It was such a pleasure to be a part of these meetings, and we look forward to building even more friendships in 2016!
FIVE: Family Time at the beach
If you don’t know this about us yet, we love the beach. Love it. In 2015 we were lucky enough to have another family week at the beach. It was such a magical time together.
SIX: New Promo Video
The experience of working with Mesmeric Films will not be soon forgotten. Jake was incredible, and the video he created for our brand was perfect. We can’t say enough how grateful we are for his talent and for the addition of this video to our website.
SEVEN: Mentoring with the best
This year we wanted someone else to look at our business, look at our photos, look at our brand, look at us and tell us what was working, what wasn’t and where we could evolve. But who? Who do we appreciate the most in this wedding photography jungle? Which photos speak to us the most? Which business model and brand most reflects the direction we aspire to go? This wasn’t a hard decision for us. We enlisted the mentoring and guidance of Justin and Mary and it was absolutely wonderful! They are so kind, uplifting, honest, and open. We had a fantastic time with Justin and Mary. This time with a mentor was a huge part of 2015 for us, and we’ll take what we learned into 2016. Sometimes it’s a huge benefit just to have someone else give your brand a once over, and even if the changes to be made aren’t major, the affirmation that you’re on the right track is another push forward.
EIGHT: John and Mandy’s Wedding
Super, wonderful, joyful, best weekend of the year? John and Mandy’s wedding! We got to be Mother of the Groom and a Bridesmaid at this wedding!

NINE: Watching Sweet Cheeks grow
He’s a real boy now. His hair is getting a little darker, his feet a little bigger, his legs a little longer. His face is slowly losing it’s baby look, and we are amazed with him each day.
TEN: Shoot and Share Contest
Earlier in the year, we entered several photos into the Shoot and Share Photo Contest. Weeks went by, voting was underway, and we continued to vote (because it’s so fun and addicting). Little did we know, a few of our photos remained in the running, one in particular would place 11th overall. Which, isn’t the most outstanding achievement in the grand scheme of things, but 11th out of several thousand is something we’re proud of.
