It’s February already?! What?! Is it just us, or is 2015 already breezing by? We sure hope things slow down. This is going to be an amazing year and we would like for it to go by a little slower so we can really enjoy it. Anyway… today we’re kicking off a new blog series all about old school wedding rules you can totally break. The name of this series is, you guessed it… “Rules You Can Break”.
The first rule we love to see broken is all about the Bridal Party. So often we hear couples talking about how they are struggling to find the right balance to their bridal party. He has more friends than she does, she has brothers but he doesn’t, the numbers are uneven, etc. Guess what? None of that matters! You have permission from the universe to choose whoever you want to stand next to you as you say your vows. Choose the right people, the people who mean the most to you, the people you truly want to be by your side. Pay no attention to silly things like 6 boys and 6 girls on each side so it “looks right” in pictures. Psshhh… asymmetry is a thing of beauty! Bridal Parties do not have to be “even”.
In all seriousness, we’re here today to tell you how important it is to have your “best people” support you in this journey, and stand next to you as you begin it. Look back at your life, look where you want it to go. Let your heart tell you who belongs in your bridal party (as well as who doesn’t). Choose those individuals not because you “need an even number” but because they were there for you in college when you swore the world was going to end, but they knew you’d make it through. Choose those individuals because they spent every summer with you, sunburns, scraped knees and all. Choose those individuals because they are your connection to childhood, and the memories of your youth. Make your list. Line up your best people, then stand back and smile. Pay no attention to what it looks like, but only how it feels. Do you feel loved? Do you feel supported? Do you feel happy? Then the bridal party you’ve chosen is right. So what if you only have one person on your side, so many would be grateful to have a rock solid best friend like that. All you need is one. So what if you have 12 sisters. If they all deserve to be by your side then how lucky are you! So what if your sister is your Best Man! She’s your best friend and that’s all that matters! So what if your Maid of Honor is a guy! Just teach him how to fluff a train and you’re in good hands!

Bridal Parties don’t have to be even, or symmetrical, or pretty, or perfect. They have to be real and full of love. That’s all.
