Tips and Tricks :: Bridesmaids and Getting Ready Photos

Good morning! It’s about 4am right now for us (although we’re hoping not for you). By now we’re in the air flying to Kansas City to photograph Kristin and Shawn’s wedding weekend! We’re so excited! Today we thought we’d share the next post in our Tips and Tricks series. This one talks about a simple scheduling item that can make or break some of your photos. Here we go…

Your hair is done, make up perfected, everyone is smiling at the beaming Bride as she lifts the dress from it’s hanger and prepares to officially become a “Bride”. We’re there, ready to document these beautiful moments, and the gathering of Bridesmaids begin to fuss with layers and layers of tulle or satin to help their friend get into her dress. Beautiful moment! Stunning moment! A favorite moment among documentary wedding photographers. How could it possibly be anything but gorgeous in photos? Booty shorts. Booty shorts can make this moment a lot less gorgeous than it’s potential. For the love of all that is good in this world, have your Bridesmaids in their dresses BEFORE the Bride steps into hers.

This is a very photographed moment during a wedding day, nothing will be missed. You’ll see it all again in the photos we give you. You want everyone to look their best. So by simply making sure all Bridesmaids are in their dresses, and 100% ready for the day prior the the Bride’s turn to get dressed, you’ll be creating some really wonderful photos. Bridesmaids wearing mis matched clothes, yoga pants, baggy t shirts and yes… booty shorts, end up distracting from what’s really going on in the final photos. Plus, by having those Bridesmaids dresses IN these photos, your final collection will be more cohesive. The color of the Bridesmaids dresses will be a huge part of the composition of the photos and will tie them to the rest of your wedding’s theme and decor once put into an album.

 

In short, make sure all Bridesmaids are dressed and ready about 10 minutes before it’s time for the Bride to step into her dress. This is something we always work into our timeline planning meetings and for that reason, we only have “do” photos to show you today and no “don’t” examples of the booty shorts in question 😉
