Tips and Tricks :: The Ring Shot

Tips and Tricks

The Tip:

Have all three of your rings cleaned and polished prior to the wedding day. Don’t wear them again until they’ve been photographed by your photographers, so they stay spotless and smudge free. Most importantly, make sure the rings are kept in the Bridal Suite on the morning of the wedding. We always like to photograph the rings while we photograph the other details like a Bride’s perfume, shoes, jewelry and dress. By doing all of these similar elements in the same setting at once, we can keep the light, colors, and overall look of the detail photos consistent.

If we don’t photograph the rings in the morning, that usually means we end up having to wait until after the ceremony. This means the rings must be taken off a Bride and Groom’s hand while they’re eating dinner (no fun) then taken to be photographed in an entirely different setting than any other detail photos. This makes for an interrupted flow to an album and is far from ideal. Plus, it makes everyone a little nervous when the rings are being photographed near or around a reception… in the dark.

So when you’re making your “things to remember” list, make sure you do your photographers and yourselves a favor by adding your rings to the other items you’ll want to have on hand in the bridal suite. Once the detail photos are taken, the rings along with all the other special items will be returned safely to their places. At that point, the wedding bands can be handed over to the Best Man for safe keeping.

This is just our preferred method of shooting the rings, everyone is different. But this has always worked out to be our favorite way to photograph rings on a wedding day.

We’ll have more tips and tricks coming throughout this wedding season! Have a great day!
