Old Photos :: New blog series

Old Photos

Our love story with photography began with a box of old photos. Mostly black and white with bent corners. So thin and fragile you can almost feel them disintegrating in your hands. These photos hold onto our history and the people within it. The gift photos can continue to give to us, generation after generation, is why we love the art of photography so much. These photos… they mean so much.

We talk about this box of old photos so frequently, we realized it’s time to share some of them with you. So, we’ve decided to add a new series to the blog where we’ll share a favorite photo of ours from that box. From now on, until we don’t know when, every Friday we’ll showcase one old photo at a time on the blog. There are hundreds, so we doubt we’ll ever get through all of them with you but the best of the best, the ones we cherish most, those will make an appearance here.

Today, in this first installment, we chose this photo from 1951. This is Betty’s Mother Shirley. That is one epic plaid dress and we are still hoping to find those sandals one day in the basement. Fashion from the 40’s and 50’s is our all time favorite. The print itself is pretty beaten up but we love it anyway. She looks like she’s about to tell whoever was taking this photo to stop. You see Shirley doesn’t like having her picture taken, and it seems she never has. Maybe that’s where we get it from. We’re just glad someone did anyway.
